Does anyone know the situation in Vancouver? There was an audition last fall, and now the position is open again.

No one was awarded the postion in the nation wide audition last fall. Now it is open to international candidates. And the same is true for the principal bassoon chair.

Wes retired due to health reasons. On the other hand Chris Millard (former principal bassoon) is now with the National Arts Centre Orchesta in Ottawa. His wife, Camille Churchfield, has taken a year's leave from the principal flute chair, to be in Ottawa and the rumour is that her chair will be up for grabs next year.
Amusing anecdote-Chris Millard recently came back to Vancouver to play a concert. The CBC ran an ad with Mario Bernardi saying that Chris had been principal bassoon with the VSO for many (since mid 1970's I think) years till the NACO "stole" him from us. His will be very big shoes to fill.
