 Perfomance problem

I have a problem when i am performing. My mouth gets really dry and I mess up a lot. It's really embarrassing and I don't know what to do.

It sounds like a bad case of the "jitters". It's good to be nervous to a certain degree. One of my first music teachers taught me that being nervous keeps you more aware. If you are too calm and complacent then you will take the music for granted and the performance will be flat and lifeless. Take comfort in the fact that everyone feels the same way and it does get better with time.

You can bring with you a bottle of water, but in the water put a bit of lemon this will create siliva in your mouth because of the acidic lemon. My teacher always told her students to drink this before going to perfom and even bring it with you on stage..besides you are the performer..do whatever you need to do to be comfortable!

Everyone knows the feeling, even seasoned performers from time to time. Try reading "The Inner Game of Music" by Green and Gallwey, Anchor Press Doubleday ISBN: 0-385-23126-1. Concert nerves are mostly a pysch problem with very real physical manifestations.

Before playing, chewing some sugarless gum can help with a dry mouth. Chewing the gum stimulates the salivary glands, especially if you're a little bit hungry. Just be sure to remember to get rid of the gum before you play! That would be a fine howdy-do, to spit the gum into the reed!
