 BUFFET replacement of CRACK
Author: Ratanapol

I would like to ask about BUFFET replacement of CRACK.
I did search in this Board but I want to know more and update.
My clarinet crack in the Upper Joint (under warranty).
I bought it from MUNCY. I called to muncy but they dont get back to me.
So I called to Buffet France directly. They said they will replace
new joint for me.***But only the wood*** and Keys still use
my old .Is this usual? I think it is not good to use the old keys and pads.
This is not my false. It might be the defect from the company.
Please let me know how do you guys think.
Or who have an experience of replacement the joint.

Ps. last week I played normally and one pad came off!!! how come??
Now I so disappoint with Buffet.

[ In the future, do not begin an entirely new thread, when this is merely a continuation of the same thread you started 6 days ago: http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=162418&t=162418 - GBK ]

It's very normal that they only replace the wood, let a good tech transfer the keys. I've had the same transfer and still own this clarinet and it stil is one of the best RC's I've ever played!

about the pad, the glue came lose....these things happen.

I think it is not good to use the old keys and pads.

Why? Do you think that they are spoiled with the bad energy coming from that crack? :) Or are you afraid that the pads will not match the holes on the new joint? I think this is almost impossible because the clarinets are made with high accuracy...

BTW I think that you should not pay any postage, when under warranty, everything should be organised by Muncy!!!

Keys are fitted to each body with very high precision. I would be rather surprised if the keys could be just transferred without some adjustment to the fit of at least some point pivots, and also to the length of pivot tubes. Some adjustments may also need to be made to the seating of the pads over the tone holes, and to linkages.

When I am involved with sending split instruments back to Selmer, a new joint comes back with precision-fitted keys.

It does not matter whether they are the old keys, or new ones, but the precision of the fit is important.

I think Buffet are shirking their responsibilities. I think you should send the instrument to Buffet for them to change over the keys to the replaced joint.

I am quite surprised, I thought everything is made so preciselly that they just
put it together with no or very little adjusting...

I've had two warranty issues handled by Muncy on new instruments. They handled both wonderfully, but I did have to pay postage to and from their North Carolina address. I suggest you ask for Phil Muncy or his wife (I forget her name) personally, and ask them to handle it.
