Does anyone here have experience comparing the Debut to the Nova Model of Fobes? For any beginning students I have them get the Debut and then after 3-4 years to step up.
I'm currently in a Mouthpiece search for my students and comparing the Nova against the Debut (I know it's plastic, but the quality is known to be very high with it as the plastic is easier to tool and the facing of the Nova is the same # as the debut according to WWBW's catalog 2005).
Comparing that with the Vandoren M13
I don't want my younger students having to spend over $80 or so for a Mouthpiece or I'd have em get the Pyne Bel Canto for about $300.
I was exclusively using the Hite D Artist Mouthpiece but they are seemingly now impossible to get. Nobody's had em in months and months since his passing. Still have students who ordered them in March who haven't gotten em yet.

Funnier yet is that Vandoren spells the Clarinet WRONG in their title bar (which I'm sure takes hits away from the site getting listed in search engines - I'll write about that mistake)
And it ain't French either.....

Is that the speed he actually played it? I don't know this piece so well so I don't know what scale it's in but it sounds like they play it a little faster than the actual recording. Not saying it's not possible o play like at that speed but just the soud of the recording sounds weird.

Brad Behn also makes a terrific student mouthpiece. Hand faced for around $20. This should also be considered.

Carbonare can play a lot faster than that. His technique is comprehensive.

Yes, of course he played it that fast - I play it that quickly too. On my other webpage http://artists.primetones.com/blummy I have a 3G Cellphone ringer of that exerpt from my senior recital (I was 21 when it was recorded live at my senior recital and I cringe a little when I hear it now). Don't buy it, this isn't an ad, but you can hear it for free the exerpt.
The sound is streamed in a very low quality fidelity so that's why it sounds strange.
and was played on a blown out buffet R-13 which I replaced 3 years later.

There are sites and dealers who sell often for less $than the maker as so not to compete with their distributors.

I am quite saddened by the lack of availability of the Hite line...his mouthpieces are very special and have a tremendous ring and richness few other pieces have. I suppose the M13 is pretty good but my students tend to like the M15 or M30 more...the 5RVLyre 13 is excellent too.
I can only wish the Hite D facings will come back~~

Tell me - what do they find that they like with the other M series over the 13 - is the 13 too closed for them??
I haven't yet tried any of them at all so no idea, just going by specs.

Most of my clarinet students like the M3013 or the M15 13 (american series...younger ones who play softer or are beginning I start out on the regular traditional 5RV Lyre until they can step up to the harder reeds required for these facings..
The M1513 is 1.04+med.closed uses3/12, 4 and 41/2 Vandys
The M30 13 is 1.15mm med/open 31/2 to 4 Vandys...or whatever comes close to it with other brands...

Thanks David! The Hite was pretty close facing also. From the chart on WWBW it shows the 13 being the same as the Gigliotti P which I like too (liked).
This will be an interesting trial

What about the Forte Gennusa? That's supposed to be a wonderful student mouthpiece. Also, Tom Ridenour's beginner's is supposed to be quite good.

The debut serves my needs well so not looking for another student model, just the upgraded version.
The Doctor sells a student clarinet which actually comes with the Genussa mp - I'll be suggesting to students to get that as a 1st clarinet as the quality is extremely high (the clarinet) and even better that it comes with a premium barrel and mouthpiece.
