I have a Gregory Smith 1+ Chedeville-style mouthpiece that I have been playing on for about seven years or so; love it! I am thinking of purchasing a couple of Greg's Kaspar-style mouthpieces and giving them a go-over(just for kicks - always one to try new things). Anyone out there used these before? I would love any input before I decide.

Yes, I have one of his Kaspars and love it. I've owned several of his mouthpieces over the years and have not been disappointed in any of them. Send him an email and ask him to send you two or three to try. Tell him your brand of instrument and the set up you're using now and what you would like to accomplish with your sound (dark, bright, etc.). I had a Kaspar Cicero 13 that I loved and asked him to send me a Grenadilla wood to match the Cicero opening and he did such a good job that I put away the genuine Kaspar and play his mouthpiece exclusively.

I have one of his Cicero Kaspars and am very pleased with it. Very responsive and, at least for me, makes the altissimo notes sing. My only tiny complaint is that it's a bit fat-bodied, enough that my Bonade inverted ligature slips quite a bit on it (had the same problem with my dearly departed Harrison gold). Once the lig lost its grip on the reed completely and I blew the reed off during a performance.n

I really wanted one of Greg's Kaspar models . . . until I played the Ched 1+. For me, the Ched 1+ played better - obviously that won't be true for everyone. But Greg is a joy to work with - you can't go wrong.

I also own two of Greg's mouthpieces--a Chedeville 1* and Cicero Kaspar model--and would like to add my endorsement for his mouthpieces being of the highest quality and "worth every penny" (or dollar). And he (being one of those "good guys" in our world of "me first" clarinets) will go that extra mile in making certain that you select the mouthpiece that is best suited for your playing needs. I don't get paid for saying this about Gregs products, nor do I get any feebies or discounts of any kind. His mouthpieces are just plain good--and that's my bottom line.

Thanks for everyone's input. I think I am going to give the Kaspar's a whirl. Greg e-mailed me today (great guy) and I am going to go ahead and get a couple of his Kaspar's. We'll see how they compare to my Chedville 1+. Thanks again!

I don't think you'll be sorry about working with Greg for the mouthpiece. You might ask him about matching barrels as well. That makes a big difference.

Good luck on the barrels. I bought two mouthpieces from him in March and wanted to try barrels, but he said he didn't have any and didn't know when he would get some. I e-mailed him a few times over the last few months and he still didn't have any and said he would let me know. Still waiting.
P.S. The mouthpieces are GREAT!

The problem with the availability of new stock Chadash Buffet barrels to choose from has been system-wide.
Buffet N. America didn't even receive the relatively small shipment that they ordered from France until mid-August. And that was after a delay of over half a year until Buffet France had come to a renewed agreement with Guy Chadash.
I still don't have any in stock nor have I had any quantity to cull from to stock personal favorites to send out with my mouthpieces. (I don't sell them seperately).
I'm sorry to say that it probably won't be happening until after the end of October sometime.

Ah, the barrel with the mouthpiece sounds good. So what exactly differentiates the Chadash barrel from a standard Buffet barrel? Also, a questions for Greg: if I already own one of your mouthpieces can I get a barrel to fit it or are they strictly for new orders? Thanks!

I have a Chaddash barrel, but I prefer the original Buffet R13 prestige barrel and a barrel I have from the Festival model better than the Chaddash. Intonation is the same on both but the sound is lightly different. Eventhough I prefer the original Buffet barrel, I think most people would prefer the Chaddash.
