 Special mouthpiece for Kids

I know, i know....again a question about mouthpieces....

Is there a Bb mouthpiece on the marked that is especially designed for children? And I do not mean I student mouthpiece, but one that's is smaller than a normal moutpiece?

The Eb clarinet could be a solution...i know that, but this came across talking to my teacher yesterday. Somebody told him there was such a mouthpiece, but he didn't knew the name of it... maybe somebody here has seen them, or heard from them?

Eddy,

I have never heard of a "smaller" Bb clarinet mouthpiece. It seems that such a mouthpiece would make the instrument play quite sharp, don't you think? And, this would negatively affect the intonation of the entire instrument.

Also, if the student's mouth were small enough to require a smaller mouthpiece, wouldn't his/her hands be likely to be smaller as well? And if that's the case, how could the student cover the holes and manipulate the keys properly?

Just some thoughts from a retired music educator and player ................

Somebody may be referring to the Vandoren "Profile 88" series, which has a "slender" beak. It might be easier to play if your mouth is small.

Perhaps they were referring to Graham Lyons' C clarinet ( a sponsor, at http://www.firstclarinet.com/ ) or to the Eb "kinder clarinet" ( http://www.bill-lewington.com/kinder.htm ) that is sometimes used with children.

Don't get the Lyons Clarinet - get the Kinder Clarinet instead. I have both and the Kinder is better (constructed, tone, etc) and it's in the key of Eb without the hassle and resistance that an Eb Clarinet typically has.

Tough question to anwser. I've never heard of a "kid's" mouthpiece for clarinet, I mean there is of course the Eb clarinet mouthpiece but I don't know if people really could make a mouthpiece for kids. Basically if you want to be a clarinet player, you most of the time have got to have the jaw and mouth support. I guess for trombone its a little bit diffrent since most of our arms grow rapidy from 6th grade all the way until Fish year of High School, but as far as a mouthpiece for kids, I do not believe those exist at all, but I do not know this for sure. But if there was a mouthpiece built for kids it would be probably very out of tune, and the reed would have a lot of trouble vibrating naturally. I hope this in one way or another helps. But I have a football game I have to march at tomorrow :) so good night everybody!

So it's highly unlikely that the mouthpiece could be made....that answer is good enough for me ;) I know the kinder clarinet, actually played on it and it sounded quite nice.

That is the closest to a kids mouthpiece as it is very, very easy to blow - and play in tune too

Well, if the kid has long fingers you could switch him to soprano sax!
