I am a Sophmore Music Education major at a southern University. I do not have the option of majoring in performance as my university does not offer that program. But, I do wish to pursue Clarinet Performance in graduate school. I am wondering what are some good schools to study at, what repitoire should I have prepared, and what else do I need to do to get ready for graduate school. My degree program does not emphasize clarinet performance, so all preparation must be done on my own. I am asking for some guidance and direction.
Thank you

Eastman, Curtis and Oberlin are names of "pretigious" music schools that offer graduate degrees in performance. If you want to eventually teach at the college level, then you will need a Phd. or a lot of very impressive professional experience. If your ambition is to play professionally, then a college degree is not necessary--just go to New York City and get lessons with Drucker or Neidich or someone of that stature. When you audition, they will not look at your education resume--it will be who you have studied with, where you have played and how good you sound. Good luck!!!

William mentioned that Curtis offers a graduate program....well it doesn't. You have to be 21 or younger to be accepted. Thought I'd like to let you know! =)
