Has anyone had coronary bypass surgery? I'm curious how long you waited before playing, again. The surgeon was unsure as it had never come up before, but he advised later rather than sooner when I mentioned that clarinet generates a fair amount of backpressure in the lungs and chest.

If you're getting the "full zipper" treatment, even blowing your nose will hurt... your cuddle pillow will be your best friend for awhile.
This may be the time to catch up on all the reading you've missed.

I guess I didn't see the earlier threads, but just to add to the mix, I had triple by-pass 6+ years ago. I was told it would be a year before I felt fully recovered, but it was more like a year and a half. Clarinet playing needs to be resumed at a very slow pace and not before you feel you can take a really deep breath without pain. I can only recommend that you do as much exercise as possible and continue in any cardiac rehab program offered. My hospital has a "phase 3" program that I still go to. Until you play enough to satisfy yourself again, keep listening to those Marcellus records ( and others) to keep your love of the clarinet going.
