It was for section position to clarify. Sorry, don't know who won, I have a friend who took it and nobody had advanced by the time he played. Said there was like 60 people taking it. This is all i know.

Diz... in the us we usually refer to being apointed as wining.. and yes you better believe its a battle, atleast in this country.

And sometimes, the "winner" of an audition is NOT appointed or offered the position. There's a difference although it isn't nice for anyone involved.

AND, it's the same in non-musical endeavors. Sometimes the most qualified person doesn't display all of the ESSENTIAL ingredients which are required to working successfully with others. For some they simply haven't figured things out yet, while others don't care or simply let their (foolish) attitudes speak LOUDER.
Unless one is a Prodigy such as a Mozart - the "Appointed" or "Winner" or "Annointed" ... all need to demonstrate that they are Team Players, leaving all baggage @ home.
AND, there are many Conductors who wouldn't want a Prodigy either. Too much work or too much trouble.

mw ... good point, and that's one reason I adore the Met Orchestra of the time, their string playing (as an example), especially under Levine is just perfection.

The position of second clarinet in the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra was awarded to Laura Barbieri.Laura has recently graduated with a Master's Degree in Clarinet Performance from Ther Shepard School of Music, Rice University, and is a student of Dr. Michael Webster. Thanks, Chester Rowell
