Can someone explain to me the difference between French, German and American bore Bb clarinets? There is some info available online but I have not found a direct comparison between all three types.

Look on the Stephen Fox website, there's an article which discusses the difference between French abnd German bores.
The most obvious difference between the two is the amount of flare in the lower joint. In german style instruments the lower joint bore is more cylindrical for a greater part of its length than the French, which tends to make the german instruments feel more resistant.
The "American Bore" is really a particular French bore (epitomised by the Buffet R13) which is most popular in the US.

The German bore considers anything with alternate keys to be degenerate.
The American bore considers gear to be more important than practice time.
The French bore considers the other two to be mere poseurs...

Thanks for the info. I guess what I am trying to find out is if there are so many variations on bore configurations, shouldn't there be a chart or some guideline available so you can make a direct comparison between all types of bores and their sound (generally speaking). Maybe that way if you are looking for a good horn to play chamber music or jazz or whatever then at least you have a good starting point.

DTH, I don't know that if that type of chart is available - I don't think so. I'm afraid that it would be too subjective as to style.
In any event, it doesn't appear you'll find that info here as the other respondents here are just to cool to help out.
