 Nielsen Clarinet Competition

Is the upcoming competition for 2005 going to have different req. than the ones before?

What is the usual stuff, if any?

Is anyone here planning on doing it?

I signed up to receive info in October, but I'd like to know about it in advance since I'd need all the help I can get if this thing is logical for someone like me.

Bradley

(If it requires you to play the Nielsen Concerto early on, then I can just about forget it, lol)

Mark has a great search engine on this site. See:

http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=27910&t=27899

http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/Study/Nielsen.html

I'd say that everyone in the competition will be prepared to play the Nielsen Concerto. If you don't feel up to it, I'd advise against entering.

Best regards.

You'll definitely have to play the Nielsen concerto. Probably also a movement from the Wind Quintet, or other chamber music piece by him.

Ken- I searched twice and only got irrelevant links or links to a thread that had 1 post which wasn't helpful. Thanks for posting, but in the future if you feel I'm causing you an unnecessary burden- please don't go to the trouble.

Thanks Liquorice. I figured you would have to, but I wanted to know how much time I'd have to prepare it if for some reason I followed it up and tried to enter.

Am I too old???

Nothing on there about age requirements, but the past winners all appear to be pretty young....

thechosenone- Thanks a lot.

From what I've skimmed through so far, that site should help a great deal.

the rep is standard there is no chamber music involved, nearly did the last one but missed the deadline. The rep included Berio Sequenza, Brahms, Stockhausen Nielsen concerto and the Mozart if i remember, i have the prospectus from the last one and it says that anyone can enter as long as they don't have a position in an orchestra somewhere. Could've changed though.

Two corrections to cigleris's post:

1. There is chamber music involved. At the first competition one of the movement of the Nielsen Wind Quintet had to be played (with quintet supplied by the competition). In the 2nd competition Nielsen's humorous chamber music piece 'Serenata in Vano' was required.

2. This year the competition is open to people born after 1975. People with positions in orchestras ARE allowed to compete.

In the 3rd round in the last cmpetition you could choose between Berio 'Sequenza', Stockhausen 'In Freundschaft' or Denissow's Sonata for solo clarinet. You will also be expected to play a new composition written for the competition, as well as Nielsen Concerto, Mozart and various other pieces.

Start practising now!

How old do you have to be?

How can I find out eligibility?
