Just curious if anyone has this wondeful recording of Yona Etlinger playing the Brahms Clarinet Quintet It is probably 30 yrs old but I remember it being quite special. Would it be possible to obtain or copy? Charles Salinger

Who is the company that produced this record??
...I am a bit puzzled by this one....
I found Ettlinger to have one of the all time great sounds...

I heard it recently....on an old vinyl recording, alas, not owned by me.
It is superb. This man was an artist of the highest order.
Perhaps a company such as Boston Records (or similar) could be persuaded to issue copies on CD.
GBK or Mark...got any clout??

The copy I have of Yona Ettlinger's stereo recording of the Brahms Clarinet Quintet with the Tel-Aviv Quartet was released by The Decca Record Company Limited (London) under the Editions de L'Oiseau-Lyre label. The record number is OLS-R 146. The date on the LP record label is 1969. Contact me offline if you want to know more about the record.

This record was rereleased on CD in Israel, I believe. I have seen it and heard it and it is so musical and fantastic. I, however, am not being much help because I don't know what label it was on.

Ettlinger's Brahms Quintet was one of the finest recordings of the work ever made. He was a wonderful artist, and the string players were really excellent, too. The intonation is amazing. It makes every other recording seem subtly out.
The LP is not common, but the used record stores often have it in the bins, and the record search services can generally find it. I'd like very much to find the CD reissue vin mentions.
Ettlinger's Brahms Sonatas, on a French RCA LP, are a different (studio) recording from the live performances recently issued on CD, and, I think, a bit better than the live ones. There was also a US LP of the Mozart Quintet, which was superb.
