Another question.. I've been having some problems with my tone, it's coming out nice for the most part, but it sounds kind of muffled.. recently someone suggested that it might be because of my mouthpiece. I play on V12 reeds and a B45 mouthpiece, and the person mentioned that the B45 left a fairly large amount of room between the reed and the table, and with V12s, the reeds were too hard to have that much space... He recomended a 5RV or a Jewel Concert C mouth piece, and one of my instructors said that a Pyne was really good too... does anyone have something to say about this? or suggestions of a different mouth piece that might be even better?

What strength of V-12 reed are you using on the B-45 mouthpiece? According to the Vandoren literature, you shouldn't use a reed stronger than about the equivalent of the standard Vandoren 3.5 reed.

I'm using a 3 1/2 V12 reed, or I was at least..I'm using a mitchel laurie 4 1/2 currently, even though I prefer the vandorens, just because it's easier to play on until I figure out what I'm going to do about the mouth piece

3)This is my own relevant question:
I play Zonda 3.5 with Greg-Smith 1.I tried several ligatures (Bay-inverted, Bonard-inverted, Bonard, Rovner, Liguaphone, Buffet double screw, BG inverted single screw etc).I tested the position(angle) of the clarinet to my body.It seemd every ligature has different optimum angle to play good.Straight one tends to be narrower and inverted ones tend to be wider in angle. I also tested how fastening tension of upper and lower screws affect the angle(many teachers says to fasten the upper screw firmly and lower one loosely to enhance vibration) but did not find any affect on this angle.If there is any ligerture hogs like me I would like to know his opinion.

Had played on a Bonade for a year and was satisfied. Just picked up a new Rovner (Improved! they say). Must say that I am thrilled with it. I can place it a number of ways and get a different quality of sound. Quite versatile.

It is possible that your muffled sound is not a function of how stiff your reed is, but rather that your reed has burrs on the flat side.
How are you finishing your reeds? When I have a reed that sounds a bit muffled, I rub the back of it [the flat side] against 400-420 grade marine sandpaper. This polishes the side of the reed against the mouthpiece, especially the part against the rails. If I wish to go further I burnish the reed against some clean white paper. Marine sandpaper is waterproof and the grit does not come away from the backing. The sort I have is on black paper. A single sheet will last for years.
I often use 300 for sanding the other side of the reed; to lessen stiffness as it were.
Make sure you do this on a flat surface.

I like the BG super revelation. The only other ligatures I ahve tried were the rovner and the improved rovner, and the BG really outdid them for me.

Mmm.I tried a BG also.I don't know whether it is super-revelation or not.It has a synthetic material band like Rovener but it has a metal plate wound to contact reed stock.Naturally it makes my selmer emit brighter tones.I do not say clear but simply brighter tones.I disliked it.If one pursues dark tone including many harmonics,he/she may dislike it.If he/she pursues Michell Alignon kind tones,it may serve him/her.
