I have always found good success with Vandorens. With some light adjusting and balancing, I can get most of them out of the box to work. I prefer the traditional cut. They seem to be more resiliant and last longer for me than the V12. I have tried some of the other reeds out there, (Zonda, Mozart, Gonzalez, Grand Concert) but always find a playing quality and sound in the Vandorens that brings me back. I see that lots of people seem to be loving the Gonzalez. While I hear some things in there that I find attractive, I have not really been able to get these working for me well enough to perform on them.
