what's the difference between moening and casash barrels? i need a barrel for my r-13 b flat--- and, has anyone tried the eddie daniels models that are modeled after moening, etc? they're cheaper, and i wondered if they were any good? any reccomendations? if there's one that would HELP in projection and tone (besides what we have to do ourselves!) that would be ideal.
also- i have a bonade ligature and i hate it because it slips and seems to come unscrewed while i'm playing it due to vibrations? anyway- i've tried the vd optimum and for the money, didn't like it. any suggestions? how about the BG? or the daniels rovner (if it has metal in it)

I have been using the Winslow lig on my horns for about ten yrs, BUT tonight, I switched back to my old Bonade lig at symphony and liked it!! I have decided to also give my old Mitchell Laurie lig a retrial next week at rehersal....I still think that, while the Winslow is the best lig--but very expensive ($60), the ML lig is probably the best lig on the market for the money. FYI---good luck.

I really adore my Accubore barrel and Rovner ligature. Accubore sent me a complimentary barrell because the finish wore off of my first one (one of the first ever made). I really think it helps with projection. As for my Rovner lig, i use the Lite one... Just food for thought!

I use Chadash A barrel(smaller bore) for my Selmer 10SII. It makes my tones more complicated than with the Selmer stock barrel. Consideration should be given what pitch your orchestra takes A=440Hz or 442Hz. Sometimes it is necessary to use a shorter barrel than the stock barrel to compensate design difference of these barrels. If you try a Chadash barrel,you may better try those of different lengths. After selecting a barrel, if a good repairman is available,you may better request him to reamer mouthpiece and barrel.In my case my Chadash barrel came with Greg-Smith mouthpiece reamered by himself.
BG ligature:I used one. It made my tones really brighter or French. Maybe good for playing Rossini or other compositions requiring brighter tones.
I used an Accubore barrel for my RC prestige(I used to have). It did not give such a big difference like a Chadash.
They make a few bore sizes barrels. When ordering,your instrument should be given to them.An accubre comes with a few thin plates to adjust its length.

I personally didn't care for the Optimum either...
I used the Rovner Eddie Daniels II model for over a year and a half until i found Peter Spriggs' Floating Rails lig. This ligature has the best response and center to the sound than anything i've ever played. (though i still want a Kaspar lig which is equally as good)
I've tried a couple of BG ligs on Bb and wasn't happy, but i use them for Eb.

I use an early version of the Eddie Daniels Rovner (my teacher back in Albuquerque gave it to me) and like it a great deal; I've also used a Rovner Lite, which I find to be good all-around and especially for more informal occasions such as marching band. I use a Daniels mpc for concert and Hite Premiere for marching...both nice mouthpieces. I don't know about barrels though.
