Here in the good ole' USofA we take a more democratric approach. The oboe offers his opinion of the pitch, and then each of us is free to choose a pitch that is most suited to our taste and lifestyle.

They seem not to have consulted the new joiners. What is the pitch position for Poland, Czech republic, Slovenia, Hungary et al.? And how much EU grant budget has been set aside to retune pianos and organs? I think we ought to be told.....

There is such an international agreement dating from 1939, I believe, to set an international pitch of A=440. Hey, and don't knock the EU. Some of us, Brits included, are proud to be Europeans.

Retuning pianos in the United States of Europe will be the easiest task. You just have to tighten some wires. But pipe organs, chimes, marimbas, xylophones and the like will take a little more work. It will take someone pretty good with a hack saw to get them cut off to the proper length. Thank goodness they're raising the pitch standard instead of lowering it.

I can calibrate my tuner to A=441 and A=442 but A=441.5 it won't do! The other annoying thing is that after the tuner is turned off, it defaults to A440! I can't believe this is happening. ;~)

I went to the website and started looking for a way to write and tell these people just what I think of them.
I forgot it was April Fools.
LOL

Jez - some of the irony in your posting was sadly overlooked.
