Just did a concert of the Schoeberg Quintet last week for radio and had a great time. I never thought I would like 12 tone but this a great challenge. The recording I used to learn it by was the New York Wind Quintet Version.....any other fans of this music on the board?

In my opinion there is nothing more worthless than bad 12 tone music; it seems great on paper but it has no feeling, no life. The great masters of it, Schoenberg, Berg and Webern (and a few others, but they are the most famous), while sticking to the 12 tone system, were able to compose works that are still emotional; they go beyond the "numbers." I particularly like Berg and Schoenberg's Chamber Symphonies and his string Trio, which is supposed to represent his heart attack (its kind of scary). Still today 50 plus years later it's challenging listening (and playing) but especially these 3 composers are amazing, if approached with an open mind.

The chamber symphony is one work I would love to do.
