 Marcellus Ginastera

Does any one, HAT, Greg Smith or others, who studied with Robert Marcellus know why he took the run down the octave in the recording of the Ginastera Variations? I say this merely out of curiousity- he sounds so amazing, so clean, so rhythmic and free at the the same time, so out of this world on the rest of the variation that I'm wondering the reasoning (conductor, different edition, etc.) for taking it down the octave. He certainly could have played it if he had wanted to....

Every time I hear this recording I know why I play the clarinet and then I sprint into my practice room.

Can't speak for him on this one.

As far as I am concerned, his playing those notes would have been more exciting, but only marginally. The amazing part is after those notes, where his solid rhythm and superb control show the difference between him and the vast majority who also have played the clarinet.
