 tip openings

I was checking the Vandoren site to find out how some mouthpieces I'm trying might compare with their standard facings and was frustrated to find that I can't try a similar lay as the ones I've got at the moment are 122 & 125 tip openings and Vandoren have nothing between the B40 at 119.5 and the B45 lyre at 127.
Why this gap? There are so many models, some just 0.5 apart.
They would have to miss out on the area I'm interested in. Maybe that's why I've never really liked them. I do possess one V. mp, but compared with the number of other makes I've had over the years I'm sure they've lost out on a good deal of business from me. Maybe not such a bad thing!
jez

p.s.
Does anyone know the lengths of facing Vandoren use. They're only described as L, M, or S.

Vandoran puts out (or, at least used to) a little piece of paper with their mouthpieces giving information on the lays. Mine shows that the B40 has a lay length of just over 20mm. Judging by the distance on the chart from 20 to 25mm, it looks like the B40 is about 21mm. On the other hand this chart also shows the B40 as having a tip opening of about 117, so I don't know whether the chart is unreliable or the dimensions have changed over the years. By the way, they show the B45 and B45 dot on this chart as both having a 119 tip opening (actually it is shown as "1,19"). This paper chart may be 20 years old.

jez...The specs on the B40 differ slightly in the 2 Vandoren catalogs I have.

In one, the B40 is listed as: Tip opening 1.20mm (.047'') Facing 22mm (.866'') - Vandoren calls this facing "Long"

The other catalog lists the B40 as: Tip opening 1.195mm, Facing 21.5mm

I'm not sure why the 2 catalogs differ.

You are correct that there seems to be a wide gap in their offerings between the B40 and the B45Lyre.

The older Vandoren crystal A3 mouthpiece had a tip opening of 1.30mm (.051''). I have two fine ones that were picked from between 20-30 samples. They are very controllable with a beautiful sound that projects nicely...GBK

In addition, jez said:

Although I have picked out a few Vandoren mouthpieces over the years for students (a long and often frustrating process) , I have not personally purchased a Vandoren mouthpiece in more than 30 years.

The mouthpiece division of their company has seemingly survived just fine...GBK
