Hi, vboboe et al.,
The website I was given for historical Olds catalogs is http://rouses.net/trumpet/olds.htm. My contact indicated that F.E. Olds is depending on longterm customers to fill in the blanks, i.e. provide old catalogs, as their records are somewhat spotty over the years. Prior to the mid-Fifties, most of the information seems to be for trumpets, trombones and brass in general.
As to the my oboe, it is a plateau(x) model, but the script of the company name on the bell is clearly "Plataux". Not being a French linguist, I did a quick Google search, and came up with the impression that the word means "tray", as in what you put under a teapot. Perhaps it implies "flat" as in "flat broke" or "flat to the tuner", although the latter is not the case with my little sweetheart.
I hope the site will help you with your Ambassador. Good luck!
