Well, er, actually...I was just kidding about the leg warmers. I thought everybody else was, too.

Tea cozies help keep heat in; they prevent the heat contained in the already-hot tea being lost to the air. And similarly, leg warmers keep you warm because they prevent heat from your legs (generated by the chemical factory that is your body) from being lost to the air.

But an oboe doesn't have that much heat to retain, unless you're a fire-breathing dragon playing an asbestos model. As soon as you stop blowing into it, it's going to start losing the few degrees of heat it has, restoring itself to the ambient temperature according to the laws of physics, and wrapping a piece of fabric that itself is at ambient room temperature around it will not slow down that process; the oboe will continue to lose heat to the fabric until both the fabric and the oboe are at ambient room temperature.

The pot of tea loses heat to the cozy, too; all the cozy does is slow down the process. But eventually that pot of tea will be stone-cold.

My oboe has lots of little sharp points that anything fabric would catch on, anyway.
