The hole in the middle of the LH2 fingerplate is for an Ab-Bb (or G#-A#) trill which is done by playing Ab (or G#) and trilling with LH2 for the Bb (A#).
I also have problems covering this on my cor as well (Marigaux 930) as the LH2 fingerplate is offset from the other toneholes being further away from the key barrel presumably for better venting, so it's very easy to slightly uncover it accidentally.
