Thanks for your response, Drew. I've been practising some "five finger" (pianistically speaking) exercises in C major and C sharp major and have noticed an real difference in the response. I guess what's tricky about the half hole and forked f notes is that psychologically one is used to "managing" the sound a little bit to ensure that the notes don't fly all over the place. It's taking a bit of getting used to blowing more actively on these notes.
