Mark,

In reference to this phenomenon, a friend of mine used to say her reeds "grew some cane." hehehe Every time you scrape, you expose new cane to the atmosphere, and that cane will change overnight. So you're right: adjustments to the tip (and to the rest of the reed) are more stable and reliable when performed in daily stages.
