I was so taken aback by the sound of the clarinet in this recording, that I nearly cried.

This captures the essence of the clarinet better than most, if not all, recordings. Of course the London Symphony and William Ross are superb, the point is that the recording process, engineering, and mastering just make this simply amazing.
We can also give a shout out to American composer Karen LeFrak.
Any other recordings recently that are similarly stunning?

That seems to be Chris Richards playing clarinet. He's also principal of the Sinfonia of London, the virtuoso orchestra of hand picked players conducted by John Wilson.

Beautiful, indeed.
I wish it were a video--I'd bet that (thankfully) the clarinet wasn't miked too close. A little distance, so that the sound has time to form and lose some of the close-up "edge".
(I'm a fan of the old Mercury "Living Presence" recordings, typically made with only 3 microphones for the entire orchestra. NOT a fan of today's technique of lots of mikes to "highlight" instruments at the producer's whim.)
