 I keep hearing things about dif. staples. Is there really *that* much of a dif.?

Silver, bronze, etc and now I come to find that there are *cork-less* staples! I must have been out of the loop here b/c I have never heard of such a thing before.

Basically, I always thought the reed itself was what made a difference but do staples really change things that much? What are the differences between certain ones?
