I was just pondering this. How many proffesional oboists have you heard mess up on recordings or live performances? I just bought a recording of the philadelphia orchestra playing all 4 of the brahms symphonies and overtures under Riccardo Mutti. Richard Woodhams is of course playing principal. In the last movment of the Brahms second Woodhams "messed up", it was a very minor mistake however. It was toward the end of the movement, it sounded as if his reed gave way. Anyway my point is when I heard the floop I was a little shocked because Richard Woodhams is a world class musican and oboist.
