Hi all,
I'm sure the answers to this will probably just be 'play more', but I'm getting increasingly depressed about the short amount of time I seem to be able to play before my embouchure gets tired and starts collapsing. I had a few months of not being able to practice much due to a family situation at the start of this year, and since then things just don't seem to have improved (a good 6 months of fairly regular playing later). I work full-time (non-oboeing) so can't fit in that much practice every day. But I try and make sure I am playing at least 3 or 4 times a week, either at home or at a rehearsal. My embouchure will start to go after about 45 minutes - sometimes less, if the piece is a long blow. It's embarassing, frankly, and it's starting to get me down! I'm trying to play longer when I'm at home, as many days a week as I can manage, but it's still a struggle to get beyond 40 or 45 mins. In fact I sometimes start to feel it after just 10!
So short of giving up the day job and playing for three hours a day, is there *anything* I can do????.... I'm even beginning to wonder if I have some weird kind of medical condition! I've had short breaks from playing in the past and it has never been this bad when I've started up again.
