New to oboe, would like some info on reeds

Hi everyone on Oboe BBoard,

I've recently picked up oboe lessons, after what seems (and actually is), a life time of other interesting long-time commitments. I have to say it is a very fascinating instrument.

Next to playing and doing daily excercises, I'm fond of gathering information about my interests in general, but now the oboe in particular. I'm always very curious about how things work and the history of it.

Now I'm trying to find a good manual on making reeds. The reeds are so interesting; without the oboe it sounds so, well, singular, but put it on the oboe, it may sound nice. Well, in my case just some of the time

Still, it is a very fascinating subject, and I'd like to get my hands on a well written manual to get a good idea of how the reeds are made and what difficulties there are etc.

I don't expect to be making some of my own any time soon, but I have a hunger for information that needs to be taken care of.

Can someone point me to a good manual?

ps. I live in Europe, I've read that there are differences between the reeds on each continent. Still that may be even more interesting.
