Name of the tune is:
"Overture on the Hebrew Themes"

It was written on the request of the Simeon Beilison - clarinetist who was friend with Prokofiev since their years in the St.Peterburg Concervatory.
Beilison, who was later the Principal for the NY Phil.Orchestra for 40 years, was the founder of the ZIMRO ensemble and the been looking for the opening number.
When he asked Prokofiev to write something, the answer was: "I don't write "Ethnic" music. So Beilisson left but left small book of Jewish Folk Melodies.
Afer prokofiev looked at the music and like it SO MUCH, he wrote OVERTURE practically overnite.
Right now Overture exists in two forms:

1. Original - Clar.,String Quartet & Piano
2. Arrangement for Symphony Orch. - made by Prokofiev himself.

I am a Principal Clarinetist of the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony and we play this piece at least once a season - mostly the original version.
