Re: Hava Nagila - what key?

Careful, Hava Nagilah isn't really in minor. I believe it's called 'Freygish'

The first two sections of the song will sound major, but will have flatted 2nd's, 6th's and 7th's. The third section will be more like straight minor with the key center a 4th above the key center of the original sections.

My group generally does it in a Concert D freygish, with the third section in Concert G minor. On my written part, it'll look like a C key signature where the root note is E, and the only sharp note is G. Third section is written Am, and one G# as the next-to-last note.

If you email me, I'll send you .pdf leadsheets in both concert & written keys.
