I've been practicing on my alto sax, usually a good 30 minutes a day for about a month now.Everything was going good, but now I seem to be having difficulty making certain notes especially lower notes. It's as if I forgot everything that I learned.Any ideas or suggestions! Also, I just started playing with a #3 reed, thinking that might solve the problem. The issue is still facing me.Why am I suddenly making the squeeking noise like I am picking up a sax for the very first time.

Did you just change up to a 3 reed from a 2.5? If so, that's the reason for the squeaks. The harder reed needs much stronger muscles in your face to prevent it from squeaking, so you'll need to practise a lot to get back the control you had on the softer reed.

Another reason could be that you're just applying too much pressure when you play. I spent some time playing the clarinet and found that when I applied too much pressure with my embouchure I got squeaks.

It's a saxophone...not a clarinet. there is the neck and the mouthpiece no barrel. :-)

Low noted are improved greatly if you put a wine cork down the bell.
The harder your reed, the harder low notes are, try going down again, or maybe sanding down your 3.

If u r playing with a brand new reed or a harder size wet it for ages b4 u play. If u have trouble getting enough spit out it in a glass of water or fill ur mouth with water. Ha Ha i laughed when my tutor told me but yeah do it.
