I play piccolo for marching and pep band and am looking into buying a piccolo. Has anyone had any experience with Venus or Symphony piccolos?

I would request a yamaha 32, that's what I have and I love it. YOu can play it for marching/concert/pep everything because its plastic for concert and silver headjoint for pep and marching. I have not heard about Venus or Symphony, so don't get them just beacuse the are cheap.

I have just started playing the piccolo this year. I am using my band director's piccolo currently until I get one, but it's a Yamaha. They are very good actually. I prefer to only stick to the Geminhardt. Sorry, I can't help you but it sounds like Symphony is the "bandlike" one to use LOL!!

Lol, I'd help you if my teacher found the piccolo disinfectant stuff @__@ I'm trying to switch from fife to piccolo, although my 1st instrument is oboe. Um.... *thinks* *agrees with laura* I have about 2 piccolos in my band and Geminhardt sounds better than the other.

I only buy armstrong. You can go very expensive about 3000 for a wood, about 400-900 for a metal or you can buy a resin piccolo which is wonderful. I have armstrong's double headed piccolo I play the resin head for classical or band music and the metal head when we play marches. I have been playing for 30 years. the resin doesn't sound much different then my wood. the metal head is less shrill then my metal piccolo and it is almost always in tune with out having to use alternate fingerings.

I would always stick to the MAIN guys for buying instruments. Yamaha, Gemeinhart (sp?), Armstrong, or even Pearl and Murimatsu have student lines and come from a really high breed of instrument.
A lot of the REALLY CHEAP pics are REALLY CHEAP. If you just want a toy/new thing to play, they are better than a recorder. If you need an instrument to play in front of people, you might want to try a Real Flute Manufacturer that makes student Flutes first.

Hey. I know from experience that both yamaha and gemeinhart makes very good piccolos. either of those brands are excellent to use. I used both brands, all metal piccs. and the gemeinhart definately had a better concert band sound, but the yamaha had better projection for marching. I'm not too sure about pep band, but i'm sure its similar to concert band.

I have a Venus and while I love it a lot, I have to admit, its not very good quality. I am NEVER able to get it in tune, and while that seems the constant for most piccolos, they can at least get close to in tune while I'm usually almost a full half step off! It was really cheap which is why I got it. Even though I only did get it about 7 months ago, I'm already looking for another one. Yamahas are wonderful. My flute is a yamaha and I adore that. It has never caused me any problems in 4 years. I dont know if thats the same for piccolos.
