hi, I'd rather be able to make my own reeds rather than buy them (as it gets a bit expensive), i can scrape the reed alright, its just the tying on as i can't get it tight enough and the cane slips, any suggestions of how to tie it tighter?

I'm just learning how to tie reeds myself. A couple suggestions given to me were to 1)which ever hand you write with, etc. should be the one your holding the cane and staple with, 2)you might also try using your computer mouse with the hand your using to wrap the thread for a couple weeks to strengthen it, etc. Both of these suggestions really helped me and I hope they help you.

tie one end of the thread to something sturdy: a doorknob, a desk drawer, a table leg, etc. put the cane on the tube, and position the side of the cane, at the top of the tube, on the thread. wrap loosely a few times, and then pull it tight. complete your wrap. This is how I do it, and it works very well for me. E-mail if you have any questions.

Eric
