You need to hold the clarinet at an angle of about 45 degrees to the vertical. I've seen people playing them with the clarinet almost vertical, but you'll never get a good embouchure if you play like this.

The clarinet embouchure is much tighter than the tenor sax, and should be kept tight even for the low notes. But don't pinch the reed so tight that you prevent it from vibrating.

Coming from sax, you'll have a tendency to play low F with the right little finger and low E by adding the left little finger. You should learn to be just as comfortable using the alternative keys, with left little finger for low F and adding right little finger for low E.

remember that the clarinet is based on the twelves and not the octaves. which means the clarient low E is a B with the octave key, unlike a sax which a E is an E with or without an octave key. and the biggest thing is to have a tought embouchure. tighter then sax all around to get a warm sound. hope this helps.

Well the clarinet is a beautiful instrument and if you can play it well you can do wonders. Dont stress over the instrument and it will come to you. Have a good attude. Talk to you later and good luck.

WELL I JUST PICKED UP THE CLARINET ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO AND USING DIFFERENT REEDS HELPS ME. IF I KNOW IM GOING TO PLAY A SONG WITH ALOT OF HIGH NOTES I PUT A 3 REED IF NOT I USUALLY STICK WITH A 2 AND A HALF. BUT IT IS A FUN INSTRUMENT. SOUNDS REALLY WELL WITH ALTO SAX IN A DUO TYPE SETTING AND GOES WELL WITH OTHER CLARINETS
