low A# is the same as Bb, a hard note to hit sometimes, but it's part of the normal range.
Low A is not part of the normal range of the common alto saxophone. The only way you can hit it is:
1) Put homemade extention on bell and finger low A#. Not a good solution if you must also play the A#
2) Put foot in bell and finger low A#
3) Lip it down, which can be difficult.
4) Purchase one of the rare Altos that came equipped with that low A. Very tough to find and be prepared to pay out of the nose for it.

Thank you for your reply.. I asked my Band director and she said to go one octave up... so there is no problem now.. Thanks again

playing a low a on the alto is not all that hard, all you have to do is play partially into your thigh cover about 3/4 of the bell and play a low b-flat
