I don't know if it's because i'm nervous about a concert next week, but I'm having a harder time dropping from my high notes to my low notes like concert F. It goes like "splat" I also have a really hard time playing really quiet. Please help me!

When you go from higher notes to the low notes on the oboe you have to put less reed in your mouth as you go down to the lower notes. It takes some experimentation, but works quite well. I've had quite a few oboe professors tell me to do this when I have trouble getting out low notes. Part of your problem may also stem from being nervous about your concert also. I have a hard time with low notes as performances approach. But putting less reed in your mouth will help.

"When you go from higher notes to the low notes on the oboe you have to put less reed in your mouth as you go down to the lower notes."
That's exactly right. And for an audition piece for all state-east tennessee I had, there were a lot of going from higher to lower notes. The way my oboe teacher told me, and it works very well, is, when you go down to lower notes, if you just bring the oboe up to a farther angle from your chest it works. I don't know if that made sense, it is so much easier to help with the oboe in person than by typing to someone. But if you can make that out, try it, it works very well.
hrm...does any one else who understands what I'm saying know how to reword that a little bit better???
well, good luck...remember oboe = practice, practice, practice!
