 Normandy 10 Clarinet ???
Author: Sylvain

Hi,

I recently bought a very nice Vintage grenadilla wood clarinet. It is stamped Normandy 10 clarinet, France (serial number, 44453) with a Vandoren B-45 mouthpiece. It as a very nice tone to it and plays nicely.

I've tried to make a search on internet, but haven't been able to find this particular model number (10). I was able to find number 4 and even number 8, but not 10.

If anyone has info on this particular number of Normandy clarinet, I would really appreciate it. I would like to know approximately the year of fabrication and if possible to know if this is a student or professional model.

Thankyou very much,
Sylvain

The Normandy line is made by Leblanc and Leblanc does not publish the serial numbers. You might be able to find out more information by calling Leblanc in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The Normandy wood clarinet is basically a student grade instrument and is considered just (short) step up from the plastic student grade Vitos. The Normandy instruments do play very nicely and Leblanc is one of the top four quality makers of clarinets.

I think your Normandy 10 may be pre-Vito, since it was made in France. (There has been so much merging and splitting among the various instrument-making concerns that it's hard to know who makes what any more.) I can't help you with a date for yours, but I can tell you I've had my Normandy 7 (made in France), #57XXX, for 25 years. I bought it in a pawn shop.

I have a Normandy 10 - serial number 51XXX. I found it at a pawn shop in, what looks to be its orig case (green fabric leblanc case). Naturally the pawn shop knew zero about it. It's in great shape and has a pretty sound. I paid around $200 for it.

I just bought a Normandy wood clarinet at a pawn shop. I know the mouthpeice and ligature is worth about $100, good quality. It's a serial number in the 4000s. Does any one know value? It's in a squared off black case with black velvet. Looks like nickel plated.
