I use Vandoren # 3-3 1/2 reeds for alto sax...they work really well for me...and they even have the "java" brand for jazz/marching band to....they can be pricey....but i'd never in a million years use Rico...i hate those ...

I also use Vandoren #3 for clarinet & alto sax. I generally find that they do everything I need. I also don't like Rico, although the Royales are better. I have been told that you are better using French reeds (eg Vandoren)on French mouthpieces (Selmer, Buffet, LeBlanc etc.) and American reeds on American and Japanese mouthpieces. Can anyone comment further? PS can I make a plea for careful spelling / grammar in tis forum?

Yes you may make such a plea, but if history is any indicator, it will probably go ignored.

Ricos... 1 word... YUCK!!! Vandorens are best if you buy them off woodwind brasswind online. I know that is where our school gets their supplies, and where most of my friends and I order our reeds. I use a Vandoren 4 for my Alto sax...
