i you want the melody in most songs and like playing sixteeth notes and fun stuff like that by all means play a flute. who cares if it a "girly" instrument cause i know lots of guys who play flutes and just cause it sound kinda "girly" which it isn't the would the drums be boyish and girls play the drums. If you want to play the flute i think you should do it and do listen to what the others say

Some of the best flutists in the world are (and have been) men. Look at Julius Baker, Jean Pierre Rampal, Marcel Moyse, Paul Taffanel, James Galway, Paul Edmond Davies. . . Good thing they didn't listen if someone told them the flute was girly.

There's no such thing as a "girly" instrument. It's true that it is an instrument chosen more frequently by girls, but if you love it and love the sound, play it. I know at least 3 or 4 boys who play flute, one in my band, another was a professional. And Amanda's right. Sir James Galway? Amazing flautist. Don't let musical stereotypes deter you from your instrument of choice. If you love it, play it.

I know lots of guys that play the flute. It's not a sexest instrument. I've also heard of some really famous guys that play the flute and make a lot of money out of it.

I have just started playing the flute, and I'm a guy. Some in the orchestra laughs at me, but I don't care, I have kind of fallen in love with woodwind instruments... (I play Tuba in the orchestra)
