If you had to compaire a bass clarinet embouchure/mouthpiece placement to another instrument, which would it be most like? I would have thought Bb clarinet, but they are at compleatly different angles... would it be more like a saxophone? Does anyone have any tips in general for learning bass clarinet?

yes, it would be more to the sax side then a soprano Bb clarinet. probably closer to tenor sax. but you must be careful who you try to model your embouchure to. i know of a lot of lazy sax's that have their head facing down, or in an awkward position, that to me seems very hard to play in. try this little tip i use to teach beginning saxophones, it may help you.
roll your lip over your bottom teeth, and put your thumb(nail facing down). and put your top teeth ony our thumb, like your going to do an embouchure. now follow through wiht the rest of your lips. now without moving your embouchure, remove your thumb and place your mouthpiece where your thumb was. it won't be exact, but play around with that. this sounds funny, but it really works and i stand by this. good luck, and i'm anxious to know if this works or not on a bass clarinet. hope this helps.

It would be more like a tenor sax because of the way the neck of both instruments are and the angles of the mouthpieces are almost identical to each other.

i don know how to recognice the bass clarinet sound and my sound always different n can not catch it...can u help to work out this problem or not????????

As far as learning the bass clarinet, I would definitely agree the embichere (not sure how to spell that) is most like the tenor sax. I would reccomend lots of practice, good posture, and LOTS of air support. Good luck.

i play both Bb clarinet and bass clarinet. the biggest difference is the amount of pressure you use to make an embouchure. on the bass clarinet you do not need to "bite down" as hard. i hope this helps
