Buffet Oboe - Which finger chart to use
Author: Rosan

I'm Learning Oboe on 2 year old Buffet Crampton 4121 Simplified Conservatory with French fingering system. My teacher said none of the fingering charts available locally match this oboe. He can't figure out how to play my instrument. Which of your fingering charts do I need? It has 2nd Octave key, Fork F. Double Eb. It's semi automatic with double G#.

you have a pretty standard oboe there. I suggest Rubank Method for Oboe (any of the 4 methods) for a decent fingering chart. Otherwise, the fingering chart on this site should do just fine.

I bought the Conservatory Rhubanks and it was different then her oboe. Teacher said it would't work. Then Went to super large music store. They said none of Rhubanks would work and none of the Oboe charts they had.

Hi, the above website has some info on different key systems. I purchased an oboe with a thumbplate sysem without really understanding how it worked, but then I called the manufacturer, and the owner was kind enough to explain the use of the thumbplate + some of the extra keys that I didn't have on my previous oboe (it was not a full conservatory oboe). You may be able to get some of the answers from calling Buffet or emailing them at their website.
Good Luck!
Debbie

No, forked F is unavoidable in some passages. So DO you use it there.

I recently purchased a used Gordet Oboe which has a 3rd octave key on it. I have never had a 3rd octave key before and don't know how or when to use it. Do you know of any fingering charts which show which of the high notes the 3rd octave key can be used to produce?
