How many oboists make their own reeds? I know that I do and have been playing on mine for quite a while and I have developed them to bring out a truly gorgeous, warm tone. Do people still use store bought reeds? *ick!*
Also, how many oboists own a Loree oboe? I own one, and boy is it gorgeous. I love its tone and playing, but I know my old reed-making teacher prefered another make of Oboe and of course with him it played beautifully.
Thanks!

I assume you mean how many oboists "here" make their own reeds as opposed to how many... period. I do for one. I think there are a lot of beginners on here though which have not yet learned how. So I guess to answer your question, yeah some people do play on storebought reeds, hopefully while taking to heart the admonitions of their more experienced counterparts.
I also own and play on a Loree oboe, AK series. It's about two years old or so now, and is a lovely instrument, despite the musical failings of its master.

I buy reeds out of lack of materials/time/knowing how to. I also play on a plastic selmer oboe. However, oboe is not my instrument, and I'm not very good. For the amount of time I spend on oboe+store-bought reeds+ student model, I'm really not half bad, but nowhere near "GOOD."

Hey there,
I do make my own reeds, albeit badly, but I do. *They're never good enough!!* I play on the greenline professional model by buffet crampon.
