If you're just learning, you might want to just try a harder reed to start with..maybe that'll work best for you, then you won't have to drop 80+ dollars for a new mouthpiece. The harder reed will give you more control with the high notes.

I've been playing for a while and I'm actually looking to buy a new mouthpiece and I was just wondering what's best for the high notes

I use Claude Lakey mouthpieces. I have been using them since 1975 and they are terrific. Very stable in all octatives and you don't need a popsicle stick strength reed to get the high notes. They are good and don't cost a fortune.

They come in varing styles depending on how you play.

I have 3 different ones for my clarinet and one each for my alto, tenor and soprano saxes. Sax ones are also available in a metal mouthpiece.

A google search will help you find them, but these sites have a nice bio and information.

Vandoran V 16 are the best for those.
