Flute is in the key of C. Clarinet is the key of Bb. if i've got my transposition correct, every note should be brought down a whole tone. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Going from flute to clarinet, every note on the flute part should be moved up a whole tone.

Clarinets are Bb instruments. This means that what is really a Bb is called a C on the clarinet. So to play a Bb, you have to write a C. So every note must be written one whole tone higher.

But if you are playing by yourself, you really dont have to transpose. So it kinda sounds like that you are wanting to play a piece by yourself, so you dont have to change it, BUT if you are going to play with someone else other then another clarinet(playing from the same key as you of course) then you bring every note up 1 whole step. :) Hope i didnt confuse you!

Unless you have perfect pitch... then not transposing drives you crazy.

WELL. Yes the note goes up a whole tone. So if a flute was a C (Nothing in the Key Signature) then the clarinet would play a D.
(FLUTE-CLARINET)
A-B
B-C
C-D
D-E
E-F
F-G
G-A

A flute's B is not a clarinet's C; neither is a flute's E a clarinet's F. Those aren't whole tone steps. Just listen to Gnomon.

I use cakewalk for writing, copying, and transposing music. I love it.

It takes a bit of thinking to figure out how to get the transposition you need, but I like it. Other than that, I don't know.

It goes like this:

A-B
A#/Bb-C
B-C#/Db
C-D
C#/Db-D#/Eb
D-E
D#/Eb-F
E-F#/Gb
F-G
F#/Gb-G#/Ab
G-A
G#/Ab-A#/Bb

As TorusTubarius said, the space between a B and a C is not a whole step, and the space between E and F is not a whole step.

The difference from flute to clarinet isnot hard. If you want to change flute to clarinet just count 4 lines or spaces down ex. Flute= C Clarinet= D
