When I tried a 1 1/2 reed the Bb which usualy sounds airy and flat was perfect. Maybe its the reed strength

Unfortunately this "fix" tends to lead to problems on other notes. People who use very soft reeds frequently start "pinching" on the high notes trying to get them in tune leading to a harsh, unpleasant sound.

But with that soft a reed it is unlikely that you will be able to reach the very high notes. Try a number 2 reed and work hard at improving your embouchure. Eventually, the Bb will sound good with that reed too.

Harder reeds tend to leen towards classical music and a out of tune Bb while softer reeds which leen towards jazz produce an in tune Bb. Listen to a song called Basin Street by Pete Fountain and Al Hirt. If you can't find it I will be happy to upload it to you through msn/aim.

hard reeds aren't neccisarily for classical and soft for jazz. It depends on your mouthpiece and embouchure strength.
Your out of tune throat Bb will get better with practise on the hard reeds.
