C# has no fingers down at all, all fingers are up; if that is what you are asking.

Sorry to tell you Heather but if you are playing C# with all the fingures up you are playing that note WRONG!! Yes that will work but it will not play in tune properly. The propor finguring for the C# note is every fingure up EXCEPT the C# Key which Flautist 4 now was asking about. The C# key is the key used by your right hand pinkey It is the first key on the foot joint.

My instuctor told me that it doesnt matter if you use the Eb key (the pinkey key) on any other note exept for Eb oviously. So I am not wrong, I just dont use my pinkey, and when you dont use your pinkey you can play notes alot faster for scales and other stuff like that.

Yes i know. There are rare occastions that you should use the all open Db Heather. The Flute is build to rosonate at a sertain frequecie when i sertain finguring is pressed. If you do not use the correct finguring as much as possible it will not be correct most of the time. My instructor is the one who told me this and she is a College Professor of Flute. She teaches at a college level. I am not trying to say your are most appsolutely worng. Im just saying you should use the Pinkey key C# key is the correct name for it when playing C#/Db.

Try it will a Tuner. If you truely do not change anything other than the finguring there will be a tuning difference. Make sure you tune your instrument the the A octaves before you do this though. Then play the regular Db with the C# key pressed and make it in tune. Now remember this is the Correct finguring. Then play it your way. DO not change anything other than the finguring. Try this out with the help of your Band Director/Instructor and tell me the restults. But the Correct way to play Db is with the C# key pressed.

Rileigh i dident mean to make it sound like your were wrong. I just was telling you the correct way of doing it to hopefully save you from having problems latter. Heather im sorry to tell you if you try to roll out playing fast music it will never work. You must use the correct finguring with the C# key pressed. Or you will have problesm with intonation with the entire flute. Trust me on this one. It will save you from having a lot of problems in the future

ummm...since when is a 2nd octave C# played with the pinky c# key? I play the oboe and I even know it isn't played like that. I think the "c#" key that finlandia was asking about is the trill c# key, not the right-hand pinky key. Playing the 2nd octave c# like that will actually slow you down, rather than help you. The pinky Eb key DOES NOT affect tuning on the "left-hand-only-notes" it is for balance purposes only. I asked this to the flutist in the orchestra, and this is what she said.

Wait you know what.. I just realized something. I got the C# and the D# keys mixed up. My bad. The C# key is the the key on the foot the allows you to play the low Db. I am sorry that I got this mixed up I will make sure i know what key you are talking about before i answer a post like this.

that's ok. And anyways i did play the c# on a tuner w/o the pinkey key and w/ the pinkey key and they were both in the same tune.

Thats odd Heather it must just be your instrument. But also like D-Oboe said it is a good idea to use the Eb key when playing the note C# to you don't drop your instrument.
