Hi lads, got a question about harmonics.
Can anyone post the sequence of the consecutive harmonics?
Say, I finger the upper G and I make my embouchure so that I reach a note higher. Is it then at least the G above?
(sounds bit vague, i know, but please, just post the sequence of the harmonics)

No that is not correct. For one thing the available harmonics depend on the instrument you play.
Let's take the flute. Play the lowest G (called the fundamental or 1st harmonic). The next harmonic (called the 2nd harmonic) is the G an octave higher. Then the harmonic above that (called the 3rd harmonic) is D that is only a fifth higher. The next harmonic (i.e. the 4th harmonic) is the next G.
On the other hand, the clarinet can only sound the odd harmonics. So starting with the lowest A, we will get the following sequence.
1st harmonic - A
3rd harmonic - E (a jump of an octave + a fifth)
5th harmonic - C# (less than an octave higher)
To really understand it well, one needs to get into the underlying mathematics of harmonics.

The harmonic series consists of a note with a particular frequency and the notes that are twice the frequency, three times the frequency, four time the frequency and so on. These are sometimes called the 1st harmonic (the note itself), the second harmonic (twice the frequencY) and so on. Alternatively, some people call them the fundamental (the note itself), the first harmonic (twice the frequency), the second harmonic (three times the frequency) and so on. So you have to be very careful with these name, because they are not used consistently by everyone.
The harmonic series based on C4 (middle C) is as follows:
C4
C5
G5
C6
E6
G6
Bb6 (slightly flat)
C7
D7
E7
F#7
G7
After that I don't know it.
A flute plays the fundamental and all the harmonics, but a clarinet only plays every second one.
I hope this makes sense to you.
