i was made band leader of my school band, which gives me some authority over what we play (sometimes) and when and where we play, etc. The band's not that good either, so i think they need some support (and practice!). So anyway, i went to my band rehearsal this afternoon (the first one of the year) and we started out playing this stupid song that was extremely boring and nobody else could play it...anyway that took a while...then we were gonna play the most beautiful song EVER with me having a flute solo at the beginning, but he misplaced his score. so we couldn't play it. i was extremely mad. i want to quit this band but i can't because i was made band leader. should i keep my commitment to this band and hope it will improve? or should i hand down my badge and let them kinda 'fall' without me. it's a hard choice.
cheers.

firstly, don't get too proud of yourself.
secondly, if your are really into music and want to make your band better then quiting is an unresponsible act and i will say that you suck. Your band maybe loosing in basics so since you are band leader you should always try to think of new ideas to improve their basics rather than play boring pieces which are too difficult for them. If you really think your position in your band is like a saviour then its not wrong to think so but if i were a member in your band you wouldn't want me to know that. A band is not just about music, its also about discipline and a lesson of a part of life.

Ok, first it's REALLY obvious that you think that you are the only person in that band(bragging on your solo and saying how you are the leader, and if you aren't there, they will fail), and well YOUR NOT! They are there to play music and you need to stick with it. They are counting on you. If you are as good as you say you are, and if they are as bad as you say they are, THEN YOU NEED TO BE THEIR FOR THEM TO HELP THEM GET BETTER!!

(I am not saying that I am not happy for your solo, I am just saying don't be too big on yourself because the people in the band might notice that your bragging , and get really mad and ticked off.)
****GOOD LUCK!*****
