ass. band tutor for new band members

i may be able to play the clarinet and oboe reasonably well but when it comes to teaching people how to play, it is very difficult for me to know what to start. Since i was assigned to be assistant tutor in tutoring the new band members on my school's concert band this year, i need to have a new syllabus ready for the students, especially the new clarinet students because the clarinet section in the senior band section is quite weak due to quite a number of newbies. So please give your advice to me!

don't use ass. for a contraction...it looks like you wrote that you were an ass band teacher. No really, I would say take it a bit slower, get them to really grasp on the concept of playing their instruments, that they have control over it, and to use air with "reckless abandon". That is the one fear of younger students, to be quieter they use less air. Obviously this kills their tone, and worsens their abilities to do anything else musically.
